Woke up to a finer day, still a little showery. We didn't have far to go today, nor much we planned on seeing, so we stayed put until nearer midday (again) before we pushed off.
The people in the campsite were so friendly and obliging, we were rather tempted to stay, but we wanted to get ourselves within range of Stratford-upom-Avon (not that, strictly speaking, we weren't already within range!).
The people at Mayfield Park have only recently taken it over, and they are actively seeking feedback. After he got a positive response to the question 'Do you sell chemicals for the chemical toilets here?', Warren told them that they got 10 out of 10. This campsite is one of the best we've seen in our travels, with plenty of space, the pitches well separated, play area for the kids, the toilets and showers well set up, and spotless — and they sell Calor gas! Actually, on further reflection, Warren said he would shade them slightly below the full 10, as the WiFi only reaches the immediate Reception and WiFi hotspot area. The only competitor in the livability stakes was the one we stayed at in Granada in Spain — plenty of WiFi access — but they didn't sell chemicals or gas!
From Cirencester, we drove towards Alcester, where we knew the McDonald's had power, WiFi, and unlimited parking — what else could we want? We stopped off on the way to have lunch in a layby — a room with a view!
And then went on to McDonald's. On the way, the sun came out — but we weren't out from under the clouds yet! The weather map from today's Times might give you a bit of an idea! — we are a little south of Birmingham.
We stayed at McDonald's a few hours, doing a lot of catch-up on the blog (and chatting to Jenny, who remembered us from 12 months ago), and then drove only a couple of miles towards Stratford, to the Temple Grafton layby on the A46. We'd stayed there before — it's well used by Gertie's big friends, and is well sheltered from the road, whose traffic all but ceases during the night.
Distance driven — today, 54 miles ( 87 km ); to date, 30,690 miles ( 49,391 km )
Spectacular clouds. Were they productive? Love ya. keep warm and dry. Cathy
