Today dawned bright and clear, but there was always the threat of nasty weather. Nevertheless, we decided to do a bit of Stratford exploration.
Today was Friday, so the market was on in Rother Street. We were intrigued by the flower seller, who was shouting out, "Flowers, five quid a bucket. They're cheap because I want to go 'ome!" — and she had a good point, as it was chilly and windy and threatening to rain!
We went on and found Harvard House. This was the home of the gentleman who went over to America and ended up founding Harvard University. The house is actually owned by the University, but is managed by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust. It's possibly the most well-preserved Tudor building in Stratford! The view out through the early — possibly a lot of it original — glass in the front room looks out onto more half-timbered buildings — the view must have been fairly similar in the 17th century!
Distance driven — today, 5 miles ( 8 km ); to date, 30,717 miles ( 49,435 km )
Weather looks yuk. Birds wonderful. Shakespearre memorabilia. Glad I can't writ e plays. Would hate to have my possessions on display centuries later. Love ya, cathy
