Started off the day at the Leicester Forest East services, northbound on the M1. Ended the day here as well.
In between, Suzie wasn't 100%, so she spent the first part of the day in the van, while Warren went into the restaurants and the WiFi here. After a couple of hours of computing, he was heartily sick of it. Went out to the van, checked on Suzie, who was somewhat perkier. Went back into the Waitrose store and bought some rather nice steak and chutney sandwiches for lunch.
Then we had one urgent job to do — the fan switch in the van we replaced a couple of weeks ago has burned out — it was a 10amp switch, when we needed at least 16. So we drove into Leicester, to a Halfords store, where we bought 2 switches — a replacement and a spare! By the time we turned back towards Leicester Forest East services, it was already getting dark.
Back in the car park, Warren set about replacing the switch — a lot easier now, as the spade connectors were now on the wires, and it was simply a matter of slipping them off the old switch and onto the new — yes, with the ignition turned off, so no fear of an electrical surprise! And we settled in for the night.
We did give Tom and Lauren a call, to let them know we weren't far away — we'll be handing over the van in a few days. Then Tom will have the pleasure (?) of addressing the lingering problems with Gertie we haven't had a chance to resolve — like the waste water, the gas heater, the original fan switch (now obsolete, but apparently available over the internet), and a couple of damaged windows in the living area — but Tom knew about these right from the outset. At least he's good with his hands, and likes tinkering!
Just so everyone knows Gerte is going to a good home, here is a photo Tom and Lauren sent us a few weeks ago, when they were at a poppy festival. We're sure Gertie will be very happy with her new carers!
Distance driven — today, 16 miles ( 26 km ); to date, 31,116 miles ( 50,077 km )
Approaching Journey's end at last, but I know how very much you've achieved and enjoyed it. The young couple look very nice and I'm sure Gertie will have good friends in them still. I wonder what her whole history has been? She seems to have good vibes. keep safe and well, Love ya, Cathy and crew
