Well, as intimated yesterday, we went back to 78 Derngate. Our ticket from yesterday lasts for a whole year, so it was a cheap day out!
So, back to Morrison's car park, and back to the house. This time we were let loose on our own, so there was ample chance to get some better pictures. This time we will let the pictures speak for themselves — if you can't work them put, go back to yesterday's entry, or to the 78 Derngate website.
Just one of Bassett-Lowke's model trains.
Hornby were considered 'entry level',
and Bassett-Lowke a class (or three) above this!

After spending time in the house, we went next door into the museum. They are having an exhibition at the moment, called 'Gesamtkunstwerk', by Carolyn Bushell, with a few contributions by Richard Allen. Te exhibition explores "the decadent and socially disruptive era of Germany's Weimar Berlin. Where art became fused with the underground culture and the lines became blurred. Where art became functional and artists 'crossed the bridge' to the future with an explosion of artistic productivity and experimentation. Berlin was and still is a centre of permanent new beginnings; 'a total work of art'; Gesamtkunstwerk". We didn't know which of the works were copyright, but we suspect most if not all, so you will just hve to go to their websites to see the kind of works we enjoyed!
Another great day, and then we left Morrison's and set off further northwards, towards Leicester (and Bosworth Field, and Richard III, and the culmination of the Wars of the Roses — but that's another story!).
Distance driven — today, 42 miles ( 68 km ); to date, 31,100 miles ( 50,051 km )
So true it is. So why was poor Richard's body found under a London Carpark? he was actually quite brilliant and a clever administrator. Shakespeare resslly turn ed all against him. From his pictures he looks as theough he spent a lot of his life in pain and yet had a v ery sensitive visage did Richard. After the 3cnd Richard he was a sifferent kettle altogether. love you. Come home saoon, safe and sound. love Cathy and crew.
