13 Sep 2015. <GB-ENG> Farthing Common, & Folkestone, East Kent —
Spent the morning in the van boxing up parcels to send home.

Drove down to Folkestone, only to find the one Post Office supposed to be open 10am to 2pm on a Sunday had actually disappeared, and there was a for sale sign in the shop window. The others were all closed, so we had to postpone our posting until tomorrow.

We called in to a Sainsbury's for lunch — they didn't have any meat pie going, so we settled for cottage pie and peas — how English can you get?

So we went back to Farthing Common to relax, and to do more research for the next few days activities — for example, with attractions beginning to close down for the 'off season', would it be worth rejoining English Heritage and/or the National Trust. It turns out that the National Trust is closing down more completely than English Heritage, so we will rejoin one but not the other. We also need to get to a VW Service centre to get the car serviced and the MoT done.

Gertie being shy!

Tomorrow may be a busy day!

Distance driven — today, 21 miles ( 34 km ); to date, 28,500 miles ( 45,867 km )

  1. Pretty fairy land, Kent. Your hair cut was very well done Suzie-looks most glam.
Have finished sorting clothes and disposing of same. Paperwork next-a full day to finish it I fancy. The bursa in my left shoulder feels immensely better after its cortisone shot and plenty of Panadol. Went over to Uni to a glorious piano recitat yesterday and have been invited to join the group at Elder Conservatorium -composers and pianists-meet every 2 months I gather. Only $8 a night for pensioners and a few sheckels to buy the odd CD I guess. Also in November sometime, 4 pianists are doing the 9 Scriabin sonatas with backdrop lighting provided from cut opals through the concert-should be absolutely wonderful. I adore Scriabin and have never heard the Sonatas in force. Guess it'll cost more, but concessions apply. Anyway, I'm going. Lovely to be back hearing piano again. Next items on my agenda are a new little CD player (someone with very large heavy hands wrecked my last 3) and next year I'm using my annual scholarship money to buy a back up memory for this laptop for the Phd to go on
Am officially on leave until 3rd Jan. To get the little family settled and get the swimming pool ready for their summer bathing. Am going to make it a salt water pool if the owner approves-feel it will be cheaper to maintain. However, when I am free it will be work as usual. Have to have it all emptied then scrubbed clean by a good pool firm, then refill it and keep it well salted. The pool man will maintain it monthly for us. Astral will learn in it this year with her mum -must get her swimming pool nappies and an all in one rashie, a frilly hat and sunglasses! and Merri and Sophie come every day for a swim in the summer-as they say keeping it all here will be cheaper than paying Marion swim centre daily for 4 months to April. So that is a big help. And I have asked the landlord for a suitable cover so we don't have this huge expense every year from now on. Will need the creepy crawly serviced and a new cover for the filter pipe but it will all be manageable with the kids helping. Astral is adorable. Will send a photo or two with the next email. Nice sunset and peaceful resting place. Love you both, cathy
