We left our mountain stop, with its magnificent view of the valley below, at about 9am, with 204 km to drive to Konya, our next destination, so today was to be basically a travel day.
We stopped for a tea break, and gözleme, a flat bread — virtually a crèpe — filled with goat's cheese and green herbs. Cooked on the spot — very nice! We'll definitely stop for one of those again!
We travelled some pretty steep roads, so steep that there were escape ramps for trucks with brake troubles — kaçış rampası!
We pulled off for a tea break overlooking a dam, with some rather interesting rock formations behind it. And more red poppies.
We finally reached Konya, and found the camping area. This one was good, clean (almost — see below) — but no WiFi. But it had toilets, hot showers, electricity — and, amazingly, it was free! It's provided by the Karatay Municipality — Thanks, Karatay.
We met up with a Dutch couple there who told us about the toilets and showers —
- There was no indication as to which end was male or female, so you took pot luck
- The workmen on the site had left it in a dirty state, but they (typical Nederlanders) had cleaned one of the toilets and one of the showers, so in the short term we would all be using that one facility!
The other thing about the site was that it had a resident stray dog, a lovely friendly puppy who couldn't have been more than 8 months old. There was no way we could leave him unfed!
Distance driven — today, 124 miles ( 200 km ); to date, 21,573 miles ( 34,719 km )
As you say, spectacular scenery. Looking at the goat herder with tractor feel that he is a very BIG man, so he probably needs to drive rather than walk and the tractor is often used as a sort of all-terrain vehicle because of it's tyres being Behemoths. Also if the goats bolt he can tear after them anywhere but into the ocean. The pup looks delightful, though far too thin and probably full of worms. poor chap. Poppies and ?salvia ?lavender. I was writing this and part of a letter I'd written popped up in the text. I think I erased it but am not sure how that happened. Computers have minds of their own. I wish you were here with me right now Suzie. I have to write examples of my practice to satisfy every one of the NMRA 2006 competencies for GeneraL Nurses and also provide research based evidence of what is behind the thinking in each (if any), at least I think that is what I have to do. It's about 2 30pm and I am here in my uni office with research papers spread all round the floor. No-one else appears to be here at the uni at all, so it is QUIET! it is also COLD. I have my thick navy winter Flinder's hoodie on and am not shivering now. So must get on with these if I want to get home by midnight.
