Today was when we drove into Istanbul. We had the GPS coordinates of a site to stop in, within the city, but this turned out to be a simple carpark, with virtually no access, and without internet access, which we really needed by now. After experiencing Istanbul traffic, we decided "Never again!" So we decided to go for another site, well out of town, but with reasonable access to Istanbul via public transport.
Finally we arrived at Mıstık Camping, in Kumköy, about 30km north of the heart of Istanbul. It looks to be a fairly primitive campsite but it does have electricity, internet (albeit slow), and reasonably easy access into Istanbul. The upside is that Kumköy — or Kilyos — is a nice little village, with good shops and a quiet ambience (except for a bloody rooster who sounds off all day — but you soon shut that out!)
Another good point about Mıstık Camping was that the site beside us was occupied by a group of Dutch lads who were having a great holiday, and were a great group to talk to.
Distance driven — today, 46 miles ( 74 km ); to date, 22,733 miles ( 36,586 km )
