Today we had a day off. The weather was supposed to be questionable, so we decided to take the day to relax and to catch up on the blog. This was easier said than done, as the internet connection at Mistik Camping is slow and very frustrating — but we persisted and made some headway!
At one point we needed to go into the village for lunch — we were bemused by the local population of street dogs lazing in the shade.
Thought you might like to see the mosque that is a couple of hundred metres from our campsite — we are getting used to hearing ezan, the call to prayer, five times every day!
One thing about mosques that is perhaps a little strange to westerners, is that there is often a group of shops below the mosque. Why not? The mosque is a part of everyday life here, and is basically just a large room for prayer and, especially on Fridays, for the imam to deliver the khutbah, or Friday sermon!
Distance driven — today, nil; to date, 22,733 miles ( 36,586 km )
Dogs nice, glad you had a rest. Don't you read the news? Get away from there, Cathy
ReplyDeleteDear Cathy
ReplyDeleteSweet of you to be concerned. Those events you refer to are happening in Syria, well to our East. But that is one reason we are keeping to the West of Turkey -- and the fact that it was a bit too far for us to travel that way in this jaunt!
