We've decided that to us, Ankara is just another big city, so we decided to push on, aiming for Böğaskale — earlier known as Böğasköy, and even earlier as Hattuşa, the capital of the Hittite Empire. But we wouldn't get there today.
We stopped off to shop at Anka Mall, a huge shopping centre in Ankara. We've had another hard disk failure — mostly backed up, but a few files needed to be rescued — so Warren wanted to get a couple more hard drives so the suspect drive could be retired permanently!
After a successful shop, we pushed on. Our shop was well timed, by the way, as a storm came through while we were comfortably under cover, sipping our Starbucks coffee! We drove out on the D-190, and then onto the D-200. Once again, roadworks and roadside stalls were very much in evidence. The landscape was basically flat, the road mainly straight or with gentle curves. In spite of this, one driver had successfully flipped his car into the median strip — have we mentioned, many Turks drive as if there is no tomorrow! We are surprised we haven't seen more incidents! There were already enough people stopped to help, so we continued on our way. As we were driving, we passed a couple of police cars speeding to the site, and a little later, an ambulance.
We finally stopped for the night a little short of Bahşili, about 59 km short of our Hattuşa destination.
Distance driven — today, 104 miles ( 168 km ); to date, 22,203 miles ( 35,733 km )
