6 Apr 2015. <HR> Zagreb —
Started the day, cheekily, in the car park in Zagreb. We walked in to the McDonald's at the station (only a couple of hundred metres away), where we found that they do a mean omelette for breakfast. So we sat there for a while and blogged before returning to the van — we had decided that Zagreb would still be in lock-down mode, so we wanted to be on our way towards Istria.

We set our destination for a camping area in Rovinj, right on the shores of the Adriatic, and off we went for another day's pleasant driving. This was a most interesting drive — we crossed a hilly region in the middle of Istria — Suzie had been commenting about snow on the ground — and then, all of a sudden, we were driving in a heavy snowfall. To be honest, we had noticed snow falling in the distance before we came into it — it looks somewhat different from rain falling, fluffier somehow. Suzie was glad we had decided not to stop off here for the night before we reached the coast! WE did stop off for coffee, however, absorbing the alpine ambience from the comfort of a nicely heated Marché rest stop.

We arrived at Camping Porton Biondi, where we had power, WiFi to the van, and showers — and a view of the Adriatic between the trees from our elevated campsite.

The sea is s-o-o-o-o clear!

Distance driven — today, 156 miles ( 252 km ); to date, 17,245 miles ( 27,754 km )

  1. Can not really credit the different sorts of landscapes and buildings etc you are touring through. The Adriatic Sea is certainly unpolluted where you took that shot,Warren. Suzie seems not to like the snow, not that I blame her for that. I remember walking to work in Edinburgh from Calton Hill where we had our flat, around across the bridges and on to the RIE back then. I held on to fences all the way with my leather gardening glove You seem to be having luck with the camp sites most of the time. And fancy Maccas making something edible apart from fudge icecreams! What's the tall spire in Rovinj? Keep on kjeeping on. Love cathy. Stay overseas! While Aabbott and co are trying to solve the budget at least. The bottom has dropped out of iron ore. I'm looking forward to seeing Gina Reinhardt having to pull in her belt like the rest of us. Our health services here in SA are shot and our mental health services are spending too much on crisis care not enough on every day people. Oh well, have a great time, but stay away for as long as you possible can. I'm really ashamed of our politicians, all of them. Love, cathy
