14 Apr 2015. <HR> Rijeka, & Pula, Istria —
Another day of driving, this time back round the back of Rijeka again and back down the Istrian coast, this time to Pula, a city with a long history, and one of the best Roman amphitheatres left in the world — smaller than the Colosseum in Rome, but with its walls virtually complete!

So what you get in the way of pictures for the day are travel shots between Selce and Pula, a small subset of the 12 or more cats that greeted us at the campsite, and a part of the magnificent sunset that bade us a goodnight!

Leaving the campsite in Selce.

The bridge out onto the island of Krg.

We shared a petrol stop with a logging truck.

Only a week after our first passing this spot,
it's so much greener!

One of the dry-stone shepherds' huts you see all through Istria.

The marina in Pula.

We passed through right at the end of shift at the Uljanik Shipyards.
(Pula has the largest shipbuilding industry in Croatia!)

Part of our welcoming committee.
Three others were actually under the van!

The entrance of Camping Stoja in Pula.
The bus into the town centre stops here every 20 minutes!

We chose a shady spot away from the point.

Not our van, but how's this for close of day? ...

... and this?

Distance driven — today, 93 miles ( 149 km ); to date, 18,113 miles ( 29,150 km )

  1. Sure a shepherd's delight that sunset. loved the little stone shepherd's hut too. beautifully constructed. notice a lot of the houses thereab outs look as theough they need painting. Poor? or Lazy? or are they rentals in the main. most landloiiirds let the darned things collapse so longf as they get theire incereased rent each year, they don't seem to give a daing. Some of the boat shots are very nice indeed. Must off to bed. Love ya. C athy

    1. As we travel Croatia Cathie we realise what a struggle life has been for these people. We get the feeling that they are making the best of what they have...We,re sure that the inside of homes would be better than their outsides..only so much energy and money to go around !!
They are a very relaxed people who love their Caffe Bars and their long chats with friends.
      Cheers
