21 Apr 2015. <HR> Kopacki, Slavonika; <RS> Ruma, Vojvodina —

The church in Bilje, just west of Kopački

Today we left Camping Family Camper Stop at Kopački, north of Osijek in Croatia, and set off for Serbia.

Remnants of fortifications outside Osijek

Farewell, battle-scarred Osijek!

We drove southwards and eastwards through more beautiful green farmland and forests. We stopped off at a rest stop for coffee before we reached the border.

Warren, at the coffee stop, playing 'The Godfather' ...

... but then thought better of it!

As we were crossing the Croatian-Serbian bordar, we were amazed at the number of trucks lined up to pass through customs — there must have been at least two kilometres of trucks on either side of the border! The sooner they get the border regime rationalized, the better!

Over the border, and all of a sudden all the signs are in Cyrillic and Roman text — or sometimes Cyrillic only! The official alphabet in Serbia is Cyrillic — and not quite the same one as used in Russian, so even there there are a few weird characters!

We drove on a little further, still on the tollway, just short of the turnoff north towards Novi Sad, and pulled of into a picnic stop — aka odmorište, or одмоиште — for the night.

Distance driven — today, 105 miles ( 169 km ); to date, 18,632 miles ( 29,986 km )

  1. Its all Dutch to me! Those truck line-ups are really scary., The forests and farms were Adelaide hillsish down near Kuitpo forest. No snow so Suzie must be happy.
