Got up to the dentist a little early, so Suzie went into the Lidl store next door for some bread for lunch — we have found that, if you can cope with their most annoying inefficiencies at the cashier's desk, Lidl have just about the best baguettes in town! While Suzie was in there, Warren went into a Chinese bazaar, sort of a Crazy Clark's on steroids, to shop around. He found a 100W 12v DC to 230v AC inverter for use in the car. The larger one we already have is overloading the car's electrical system, so we can't use it. With an inverter, we can run the computer in the van, or at least recharge it while we are travelling — this will reduce our reliance on Macca's.
Then into the dentist. As usual, they were totally delightful, and the job was done within half an hour. Then we found that they had made a mistake, and quoted €200 for a non-molar job, whereas the molar should have cost €250. We were happy to pay the difference, but they wouldn't hear of it! So we left, with fond memories of our Toledo dentist.
Last night, had a bit of a disaster with the computer and one of the disks has become unreadable. Went back to our Toledo Macca's and spent some time searching for some software that will revive the drive. Found Active@ File Recovery which comes well recommended. Started it running, and found that the low-level reading of the disk will take something like 28 hours. Fortunately, you can save the search results at any point, and then resume from the saved search, so we can do this task over the next few weeks, even as we drive (so long as Suzie promises to avoid any potholes in the road!). The new inverter will be most useful in this mission!
So, after a few very profitable hours at Macca's, we went into the nearby super-supermarket for a four-day food shop. In an associated store, Suzie found a good pair of Nike shoes for Warren — we've been walking so much, he's worn out his much loved last pair. Then we adjourned to our parking area at Safont, outside the Toledo city walls, for the night. Suzie is never sad to have the view of the Alcázar in the setting sun.
We were so busy today that we didn't get round to taking any photos, so you will have to be content with word pictures — sorry!
