24 Mar 2015. <IT> Pisa, & Firenze, Toscana —

Today we made a slow start from Pisa — we were going to spend a little time in Macca's before we set off for Florence. Got there at 10, only to find they didn't open until 11. We needed to do a four-day shop, and there was a supermarket just up the road. That took us an hour, and we returned to Macca's, only to find that their WiFi required an Italian, German or French SIM card — none of which we have! Let's hope this won't hold for all of Italy — but if it does, we will just find alternatives!

So, soon after, we set off for Florence — another tollway drive (we're getting lazy!) On the way we passed Pistoia, whose main industry seems to be plant nurseries — we passed nursery after nursery on the way!

Got to Firenze (Florence) and went up to near Piazza Michelangiolo where the camping area we enjoyed seven years ago used to be — but there was information as to where they had moved to. So we drove to the new site — Camping Firenze, a little further out of town, but on an easy bus route to the city centre. It's only new (almost a year old, set up last Easter), and is very comfortable. And there is internet connectivity throughout the site, which we will certainly take advantage of). So we settled in and started catching up on the blog straight away — we had got nearly ten days behind, with a few big days slowing things down!

Distance driven — today, 76 miles ( 123 km ); to date, 16,625 miles ( 26,756 km )

  1. I'm glad you caught up. Was missing my 'fix' for the day. Glad you are happy and comfortable. I think Italy is a lovely place. The Italians I've met have all been rather pleasant too. Why do people plant trees alongside roads? They are fine planted, but the roadside is far too dangerous these days of fast and furious travel. Love C
