Still in Albi. We were conscious of the cathedral looming over us through the night. Started the day with a walk up to the covered market. This is a wonderful permanent market, and they have set up the lower level as a supermarket, so you have the best of both worlds. We wandered about, accepting proffered samples of exotic breads on our way around.
Then we went over to the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. When we were here last timew, we only saw part of it, so we wanted to spend a more leisurely time exploring. No photos allowed, unfortunately! — although we did manage to sneak a general view inside. This is the best collection of Lautrec anywhere — apparently the powers that be in Paris declined to exhibit his works (we bet the'yre regretting it now!), so his family donated it all to Albi, his home town.
They kicked us out at midday. We thought it was early Sunday closing, but we found out that it's the normal hours — the provincial French really like their long lunch hours.
From here, we had another wet-weather drive, to Carcassonne, where we parked in the bus and campervan parking area for the old city — it's charged by the hour during the day, but no charge overnight, so it's a good base of operations.
Distance driven — today, 123 miles ( 198 km ); to date, 15,910 miles ( 25,605 km )
Hi there, I have enjoyed catching up on your blog. It's taken me 2 weeks to get to it, due to extra help needed by Veronica. Your photos Warren are superb. Hope the inverter is still working and helping with the charging of computer issues. Can you believe you have been away for nearly a year? Keep enjoying, keep posting on your blog, and keep safe.

Dear both, I notice DA has remarked on your nearly anniversary. It seemed years and years to me until I eventually got onto the blog. I had to learn to manage it eventually which did me good. Still now I can browse back and forward as much as I like. The photos just get better and better, Ah! The loose Toulouse! Parisians surprise me too when they decide to be just too too moral!!
ReplyDeleteI guess you can get lots of travelling done while the long lunches go on. Anyway, thanks for all the trouble you take with this newsy blog. I'm incommunicado until Thursday am after this, because I have to finish a 2,500 word lit. review which is only a fraction of what I will need to do. I've got 8 lever arch files full of research papers related to obese pregnancy, risk factors that i accessed and printed on-line: midwives, obstetricians. standards for practice , strategies for practice, everyone's views about things and every maternal age's problems to 40. all published post 2000. Anyway I reckon I'll pick the ten best and write 250 words on each-abstract, good quality, not so quality, you get the drift. Anyway, love to you and lol :) Cathy
