4 Oct 2015. <BE> Heverlee, & E42. Aire de Tignée (near Herstal); <DE> Aachen; <BE> Spa —

Gertie overnight

Suzie delivering the old newspapers — to the rubbish bin

Basically a short day of travel, from our rest stop at Heverlee in Belgium, in our noisy little van, towards Aachen. But before we left, Warren spent a long time — all the morning — in the restaurant, using the WiFi to do a little blogging, and to keep the lines open with Melbourne, as we were worried about Sue's Mum. Our worries were realised, unfortunately, as at about 12.15 the message came through that Alice had passed away, peacefully, with family sitting by her bedside. Sad, but a nice way to go. We spent some time thinking of Mum, the wonderful influence she has been on us.

We left Heverlee, sadly, and drove on, still reminiscing about Mum. We chose to stop short, at the Aire de Tignée, about 20km short of the German border, because it had good parking, and a magnificent restaurant complex (with WiFi) that stretched as a bridge across the highway. We needed the WiFi so we could keep in close contact with the family at this time.

We have been running with the European CampinGaz for the last few months. Our last cylinder ran out today, so Warren reconverted our system to take the British Calor cylinders — remember, we replaced those cylinders while we were in England a couple of weeks ago. So now we will be able to get rid of the CanpinGaz cylinders (and have a little more space in the van!)

Distance driven — today, 52 miles ( 84 km ); to date, 29,331 miles ( 47,204 km )

  1. My thoughts were with you through all this and as you say, Sue's mum died peacefully and with family supporting her passing as this family will always do for one another. Alice and David gave you all very sound principles by which to live and the sort of love many people never have. It shows in the way you all treat and help your fellow creatures.
