6 Feb 2015. <ES> Huelva, Andalucia; <PT> Castro Marim, Algarve —

Those storks
will nest
ANYWHERE!
Today we left Seville and set off for Portugal. First, though, we made a stop at Huelva (in Spain), to spend a few hours in Macca's to try to get the blog a little more up-to-date. By the time this was done, there was little travelling to be done — across into Portugal, and into an aire in Castro Marim, within sight of the border. We are now in the Algarve, a popular winter destination for many Europeans, as it tends to be the warmest place in Europe over the winter.

Crossing the border (via a rather spectacular bridge), we arrived at an automatic toll point on the roadway — this is easily negotiated, by introducing your credit card into the automatic toll machine, which then associates your card with your vehicle's registration number — done photographically — so that from here on, you just go on and off toll roads and the costs are automatically debited to your credit card. Not a bad method!

We got to the aire beneath the castle in Castro Marim, to find it was quite popular, with vans from virtually every European country present there. We settled in for another quiet night, this time in Portugal!

Distance driven — today, 94 miles ( 151 km ); to date, 12,484 miles ( 20,091 km )

  1. Hope the storks are electricity wise. The bridge is indeed spectacular. country looks nice. The algarve is famous for sunshine, expensive things, women banditti, and tapas bars someone told me once. Perhaps you can give me your versions. enjoy the warmth. pray the storks don't single you out! Lotsa Cheers, cathy

  2. The locals love the storks, and even build stork chimneys specially for them, so they don't block up the real ones! Can't wait to chat when we get back! Susie & Moo
