Woke up in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, then went for a walk along the waterfront and into town where we did a little shopping — some wool for Suzie's knitting, and a few groceries. Also dropped in to the local market — the big fish item here is sardines! Then back to the van. The main aim of the walk was to post a postcard from the post office. Go there, only to be told that Spanish post no longer carries postcards — presumably we would have to put them into envelopes and pay full letter rate for them. Dammit! Someone's going to get a Spanish postcard from Gibraltar!
We drove to Cádiz — a port with a lot of history, but not very much in the way of tourism. Just as well, as we couldn't find a convenient park, so we continued on towards Gibraltar. Remember that, for us, the drive is just as much fun and interest as the destination!
We landed in the parking area behind a big shopping complex in La Linéa de la Concepción, the Spanish city that borders on Gibraltar, and here we holed up for the night.
Distance driven — today, 121 miles ( 195 km ); to date, 13,034 miles ( 20,977 km )
Hope the La Linea lights went off for the night so you could sleep. The colourful buildings are a delight in La Linea. Don't be too disappointed by Gibraltar closer up. I have been told that nowadays it is more concrete than rock- and watch out for thee thieving apes there. Don't take anything valuable with you and no handbags with long straps or cameras the same worn toward the roadside of your body. I really love driving too-to see all the sights. Your photographs are the best postcards Warren. That huge bridge looks wonderful Where is it? I miss you guys and I'm not much in touch with Tris and not at all with Jonno, tho' I've tried to et his phone numbers. I'll settle down and write to Tris for all of them. he seems to have steadied and become so reliable these days. have you been to any English subtitled Spanish films? Apparently their industry is starting to blossom so someone at one of our festivals said recently? Anyway, until next timedd, love Cathy and all.
