22 Feb 2015. <ES> Granada, Andalucia, & Totana, Murcia —
Today is basically a travel day, from our camping area in Granada to an aire at Totana, about 40km southwest of Murcia near the Costa Blanca. We took some time to leave the camping area in Granada, because Warren got into a long conversation with another camper, exchanging experiences, but finally we got going.

A slow, steep climb out of Granada, but magnificent scenery. The terrain kept changing. At times we could have been in the Painted Desert of Arizona. We even saw some houses dug into the sides of hills! There were Moorish castles on the hilltops much of the way.

We were very taken with the blossom coming out all over the place — many places had almond trees interspersed with olive groves. We would hardly think it was winter — the weather is treating us so well here — although the wind is gusting up fairly strongly at times.

We reached the camping aire at Totana, with a little back-street driving — nowhere near as difficult as we have had in the past — and we settled in for the night.

Distance driven — today, 163 miles ( 262 km ); to date, 13,919 miles ( 22,401 km )

  1. I guess the pictures were worth thousands of words. What an ancient land, to be sure, How very beautiful, though at times bleakly starkly scary. Glad you are having good weather. thank you. the scent of the almond blossom must be lovely. the houses along the roadside look like many we have here, especially in rural areas of SA. Love, cathy.

  2. Just enjoyed another catch - up. Hope the need for a dentist doesn't interfere too much with your plans ...
As you say, flexibility is your trademark.
Fabulous architecture - somewhat different from Scotland and England. So glad the camera is working really well. Dorothy is in the United Arab Emerites again for her annual treat, and much of what you see in Moorish Spain probably resonates with what she is seeing.
Keep well and healthy, ( which you will if you are eating a balanced diet ie. Local bread and produce interspersed with Mc Donalds!), love Russ
