11 Feb 2015. <PT> Castro Marim, & Vila Real de Santo António, Algarve; <ES> Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Cádiz, Andalucía —

We left Castro Marim and drove into Vila Real de Santo António, just a little south. This is apparently quite a tourist destination, but we cannot figure out why! It's crowded, tatty, interesting to walk but in no way a place we would like to holiday, especially with the rest of the Algarve so near by. Maybe it's one of the cheaper places in the Algarve — but we didn't hang around to find out!

Instead, we decided to have another day of driving, back towards Seville and then southwards towards Cádiz.

We ended up in an aire in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a township north of Cádiz, on the beachfront — well, actually, on a broad estuary! Very comfortable, and very populated with French, German, British, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch campervan people — quite fascinating in its own right.

Distance driven — today, 159 miles ( 256 km ); to date, 12,913 miles ( 20,782 km )
