16 Feb 2015. <ES> Andújar, Jaén, Andalucia, & Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real, Castile-La Mancha —
A travel day today. From our overnight picnic spot we drove back northward, pausing at Andújar for a Macca's break. After a couple of hours, we continued up past Desfiladero de Despeñaperros, passing from the province of Andalucia to that of Castilla-La Mancha. We detoured across to Alcázar de San Juan, a city not far off our route to Toledo, where we found a very comfortable aire for the night. On the way, we were reminded that we were in Don Quixote country — windmills dotting the tops of the hills!

Distance driven — today, 180 miles ( 290 km ); to date, 13,436 miles ( 21,624 km )

  1. I was reviewing this this am. I guess the last image is yet another bull-ring? Oh well we have rugby, soccer, cricket and AFL here and they can be bloody deadly for people, let alone animals, and the eedjits choose to play them. And don't tell me the bulls don't enjoy goring those whom they can before their noble deaths. The ubiquitous windmills are great aren't they? Are they still in use as mills or are they converted into holiday apartments? I love the guitar man scarecrow too. You can see how the Mexicans tie up with Spain in that figure alone. I'm having a great trip, don't know about you. Love Cathy.
