23 Feb 2015. <ES> Totana, Murcia, & Benicàssim, Castelló (Costa del Azahar)

Another travel day! We waited for the bread delivery at the Totana aire before we made off for another day's travel. The wind was gusting a gale — the van was being buffeted form all sides, but Suzie did a great job of getting us along our way safely. More Moorish castles and spectacular scenery!

A huge solar farm

We were taking the non-tollway route up, and it seems that virtually all the trucks in Spain have the same idea! Today we saw more trucks than at virtually any other part of our travels. Most of the time we could get past them easily, but the van still struggles a little on hills — nowhere near as badly as before we had the engine replaced, but we still feel it's a little underpowered for its overall weight.

We continued northwards, towards an aire in Benicàssim, basically just a layby off a fairly quiet road, but right beside an almond orchard — delightful.

Distance driven — today, 233 miles ( 375 km ); to date, 14,152 miles ( 22,776 km )

  1. Wow! Fantastic scenery. Man and dog at the end? Moorish forts and castles. Open to tourists or privately owned? Blossom is gorgeous. We hid 9 almonds on our tree this year and they grew and survived! So we can tell the landlord the parrots eat the lot as a rule. The pool is green again but we will shock it back to blue in a week or two before they come to inspect us yet again. The truckies also know the best places to eat by he way! Anyway, love to you, cathy
