18 Jul 2019. <GB> Cambridge, England —

Today we packed our cases, loaded everything into the car, checked out. Our car parking was paid up to after 3pm, so we decided to walk (yes, walk!) into town and visit the Cambridge Museum of Zoology, which has recently had a huge upgrade.

The museum opens at 10am, and we got there a little before this. There were already a few people waiting on the steps.

When we went in, we found ourselves in a totally enjoyable environment, designed for learning at all levels, from the youngest child to the most serious zoological researcher. You enter beneath the skeleton of a large fin whale, found beached at Pevensey Bay in Sussex in 1865, and then go into three floors of taxonomically arranged and beautifully displayed specimens

Integrated with the current display there is an exhibition of the works of Jonathan Kingdon, a zoologist, science author, and artist who focuses on taxonomic illustration and evolution of the mammals of Africa. His lithographs and drawings are scattered among the animal specimens, and there is a separate display of some of his more "artistic" works. We spent a couple of hours mesmerised by this incredible museum, before we adjourned into the cafe, and then made our exit and walked back to collect our car and depart for Lincoln, our next stop.

We drove the 97 miles to Lincoln, found our Travelodge, and checked in. From the window, we could see Lincoln Cathedral.

We decided to walk up to the cathedral. This involved a walk down High Street, then up Steep Street — so aptly named! — and we soon reached our destination. Looked at it from the outside — like a lot of sites in the UK, it is undergoing substantial renovation! We didn't go in, but decided to return the next day — but this time using the Walk & Ride Bus that runs up to the cathedral on a 20-minute schedule.

We went round to a pub near the cathedral, had a bite to eat and something to drink. Over the road was a letterbox, so Suzie got off a few more postcards!

Then we took a leisurely walk down the hill and back to the hotel. Looking back towards the cathedral form the hotel, we could see it resplendent in the setting sun.
