Well, we're still hanging around Gloucester. But we're getting things done. Our first task was to go to Morrison's for the paper, and some things for lunch. We decided to stay in the car park, have a cuppa, and then repack our souvenir brochures to take advantage of the Print Post rates — less than 5kg, print materials only, sent by sea mail (about 56 days transit) — £31 for each of 3 parcels, for a total of £93. As we had previously packed it, in 2 parcels of about 7kg each, it would have cost £200 to send. Donna, Bec and any of the family — when they get to Bardon, feel free to look through them! They're not secret/private/whatever — just that we don't want to lose them, and as excess baggage on the flight home (whenever that will be) the costs would be prohibitive!
While we were sitting in the car park, we got into conversation with this lovely local lady and swapped travel stories for about an hour!
We've taken advantage of the delay to have the new winter tyres fitted to the van, so now we are Europe-legal!
Richard Hulin is still working out options with the engine — seems as if Holland has fallen through, so he is looking for another engine to get reconditioned here and, once it is ready, it would take less than a day to drop in. On the other hand, the reconditioning process will take about two weeks. In the meantime, we are mobile, so will be able to get to Stonehenge and do some more touring (and blowing smoke) before coming back to get the engine fitted.
So we're going back to our layby tonight, then meeting with the Gas man for the van tomorrow, to get the gas set up for Europe.
Distance driven — today, 40 miles ( 65 km ); to date, 7,656 miles ( 12,322 km )
