For the story of our days at Charlecote Park, read yesterday's entry.
We left Charlecote, driving towards Stratford-upon-Avon, which was a familiar point on our way towards Gloucester. On the way, the alternator belt was making a lot of noise, and then — nothing! The belt had snapped. We kept going, as we were only a few miles from Stratford and the car park we knew behind the Leisure and Visitor Centre there. Once parked, we called the RAC, and a mechanic was with us within the hour. Turns out he was the same man we had seen driving roound the area over the past couple of days! Anyway, he confirmed our dilemma, went off to get a belt (he didn't the size for our vehicle with him — Warren suggested he get two, as a spare is always a good idea). He had to drive about 50 miles to get them, but was back within 90 minutes. He really knew what he was doing, as it only took him about 10 minutes to refit a belt. Susie had gone in to Macca's to get some internet time, so Warren then sat in the car for 20 minutes, keeping the revs up, to make sure there was enough charge in the battery to get us started tomorrow.
That done, he came in to Macca's to get his internet time while Susie went back to the van to do some bookwork. Warren returned at about 7, we had dinner, then watched the first episode of Operation Stonehenge, the BBC program about the new discoveries, that Warren has been able to pull in. Then to bed!
Distance driven — today, 56 miles ( 90 km ); to date, 7,578 miles ( 12,196 km )
