8 Dec 2015. <GB-ENG> London —
Today, back to the National Gallery for a while. People go in there to look at the paintings and other pieces of art. They don't often look at the floor, but the mosaics in the entrance are quite spectacular!

A bus advertising the show we're seeing tomorrow!

Where better to have an art class
than in front of a couple of Constables!

Then we went round to the National Portrait Gallery. This is in the same building, but is a separate operation. We only had time to explore a part of the collection, but what we saw was not only incredible artistically, but also from a historical perspective. We revisited our old friends Richard III and Henry Tudor, Elizabeth I and other monarchs and their supporters and opponents. But there are also portraits of eminent men and women from all ages.

After all too short a time at the National Portrait Gallery, we had to make a move to St Martin's Theatre near Covent Garden. Suzie is an Agatha Christie junkie, so a performance of The Mousetrap. If you want to know more about the play, you could go to the Wikipedia article — but be warned (if there's any chance you might ever go to see the play) — major spoiler alert!.

It was well after dark when we came out, so we walked our way back home along Shaftesbury Avenue. On the way, we were amazed at the number of shows playing in such a small area — but we were in the Wast End, London's theatre district. As we turned the corner from The Mousetrap, we passed four theatres, with Les Miserables, The Curious Incident of The Dog In the Night-Time, Peter Pan Goes Wrong and Thriller Live. And opposite them is London's Chinatown!
