3 Dec 2015. <GB-ENG> Leicester, & Nuneaton, Leic; London —
Warren started the day by walking up to the nearby post office to post a few more pieces of clothing up to Kay in Scotland.

Tom and Lauren were going to come to take us to the station, but we had to call them to make sure they brought Gertie's keys with them when they came — we had realised we had left a couple of papers in one of her cupboards, papers we would need when we got home. Not to worry — they were planning to have Gertie in reserve just in case our suitcases wouldn't fit into Lauren's car (the larger of their two cars).

Well, anyway, we said our final goodbyes to Gertie, and Tom and Lauren — grins and all — took charge of our girl! She's been marvellous for us, even though she wasn't well for part of the time, and we wish Tom, Lauren and Gertie a happy life together!

Tom and Lauren then drove us over to Nuneaton Station, about 20 minutes away — yes, the cases did fit in the car, but only just! They dropped us off in plenty of time for the train, the 12.36 to London Euston, and we finally took our leave. We are looking forward to getting reports about Gertie's exploits in the coming years!

We had less than a half hour's wait for the train, and then the journey was smooth and comfortable. We got to Euston Station, and then decided to take a taxi to our apartment just off Picadilly Circus. The taxi driver let us off right outside the door, but we didn't recognise it — it's most unassuming. We called the agency, who needed to send someone round to let us in and give us the keys. This took about 30 minutes, but then we were inside. Another problem — we're on the third floor, and the lift was out of action! We dragged our cases up the stairs — with the help of the agent. We've been promised the lift will be running by the time we check out!

But we're in! The apartment is small, but a lot bigger than Gertie! We're comfortable. And the  neighbourhood just has to be seen to be believed — it's amazing! We are one short block from Piccadilly Circus. Just round the corner is the theatre where The Book of Mormon is playing. Idea! Why don't we go and see a performance? We'll check it out tomorrow. But for now, it's a case of the Hams settling in and getting ready to hit London!

  2. What mileage-around the world and a bit basically isn't it? Dear London. I stayed in Earls' Court three days, then St James Palace, Ambassador's court! Culture shock but the little shared room in Earl's court was less grand but much warmer. Nice to see the Christmas decos going up. Go and have a look at the Shard and that gorgeous football shaped building won't you. They just fascinate me. Have fun in London town. Glad you are down to a bag each now. Get a couple of good books Warren and Suzie-enouigh wool for ffour baby outfits for the trip home! Love ya. Cathy. Now, on with the review!
