8 Apr 2014. <AU> Bardon, & Brisbane, Queensland —

Received a reply to my query to the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) this morning. It was not really what I wanted to hear, and with a further to-ing and fro-ing with Toni Caggiano at the other end — thanks Toni for the detailed assistance — we have decided that registering our travel plans with DFAT would be over-complicated, as we would need to register each destination, our dates of arrival and departure, and contact information at each point. As we will seldom be spending more than a day or two in any place, this would be a continuing chore for the two years. We are going maintain this blog throughout our travels, so we have decided that this will be our lifeline. As we will constantly update it with upcoming plans (which will be replaced with descriptions of our days as they come to fruition), our sons will know our whereabouts at all times, and if the news from Europe raises any questions as to our possible safety, thay can notify DFAT with our travel and contact details at the time. (Yes Jonno and Tweedles, you now have another job!)

Went over to Doctor Deb, the Travel Doctor, this afternoon. Yes, I know we'd already visited the Travel Doctor in Albert Street in the City, but Dr Deb (Dr Deborah Mills) has published a book we have been recommended — Travelling well, the "must have" guide to a safe and healthy journey. If we had visited her clinic in the first place, this would have been a part of our travel kit, but we thought it well worth the $24 to add it to our resources!
