20 Jun 2019. <RU> Yekaterinburg to Kazan Russia —

Today all we had to do was to check out of the hotel and get ourselves onto the train to Kazan. Well, it was a slightly exceptional day at the Hotel Chekhov. Today was its tenth anniversary, and they were having a visit from Citizen Anton Chekhov himself. The girls on staff were fussing about him, getting their photos taken with him, and offering all and sundry glasses of bubbly and special cupcakes to start the day!

Must say that the Hotel Chekhov was one of the most comfortable stays we have experienced. This small boutique hotel has been set up for comfort, the whole building has been insulated from the weather and thoroughly soundproofed — we were impressed when we noticed that our room was effectively quadruple-glazed, with inner and outer double-glazed windows!

Anyway, we bade them a sad farewell as our taxi took us to the station to catch the 10:12am train to Kazan.

The train trip was 11¼ hours, getting us in to Kazan at 9:25pm. We were met at the station, and driven to the Nogai Hotel for our overnight stay.
